The Capturing Hopes Story

Capturing Hopes Photography was founded by CHP President, Deneen Bryan, through her passion for children’s hospital photography and her volunteer work with the Ronald McDonald House. As a result of Deneen’s own personal experience of receiving HOPE photography during the time that her own daughter was hospitalized for a liver disease in 1998, her journey of starting Capturing Hopes Photography began. Christina Bryan was born with Biliary Atresia, a rare liver disease, which following many surgeries, including liver transplantation, would take her life at the age of only six months. It was during that time that a photographer offered Deneen and her husband, Steve, the gift of professional photography in the hospital. Those photos are now priceless memories of the short time that they had with Christina prior to her death on April 16th, 1998. Deneen and Steve now reside in Clemmons, North Carolina and are parents to six children ranging in age from 10 years old to 21 years old.

In 2011, Deneen began volunteering as a professional photographer at the Ronald McDonald House of Winston Salem, NC. offering HOPE photography to any family with a child in the hospital. It was at that time that both Deneen and the Ronald McDonald House staff realized that not only were the HOPE photos a priceless gift to the NICU families, they also saw the HOPE that the families experienced when it came time for their child’s photo session.

In January of 2013, with the help of a handful of other local photographers, Deneen began to offer free HOPE photography services to all NICU families in the Winston Salem area under the name of Capturing Hopes Photography. In 2015, Capturing Hopes Photography has chapters in both Winston Salem, NC and Indianapolis, IN and also has over 200 photographers available nationwide for NICU sessions in their own local hospitals. In 2017, Capturing Hopes is beginning the plan to also have chapters in Chicago, Illinois and Orlando, Florida. For more information on opening a Capturing Hopes chapter in your area, please email Deneen at capturinghopesdirectors@gmail.com

*All HOPE photography sessions are free of charge to NICU families. The families also receive a beautifully edited photo gallery to download, print, and share their photos. Families can receive a session every two weeks while their baby is in the NICU, the purpose of HOPE photography is to capture the baby’s journey from the first day until the day they graduate from the NICU.
